And a little about us….. Your hosts Charlotte and Simon,
Long time residents of the wider Tauranga area, we moved to Maketu in 2014 for a quieter coastal lifestyle that is within easy driving distance to all thatTauranga, Mt Maunganui, Papamoa and Rotorua offer.
Simon is a passionate drummer – currently playing in 2 bands, check out Kaos and Tauranga’s monthly Blues Night, so rehearsals and gigs are part of what he does…. He is chief groundskeeper at Quirky Woods and also self-employed, managing Aprons and More.
Charlotte works part-time in the Western Bay of Plenty community, runs the daily business of hosting guests, loves yoga and gets creative on a regular basis adding fun touches to the property. At the moment a driftwood gallery is taking over all available wall space!
Our family includes a Great Dane X puppy, she was born in August 2017 and is the size of a miniature horse!! Friendly and goofy, she loves having guests over at Quirky Woods. We also have 2 chickens clucking away.
We live in a very unique home, built in 1980, that shares the garden space with The Garden Room. There also is a separate sleepout that was used as a tool shed – it is now a gorgeous shared unisex guest toilet and shower facility. The shower is amazing! A kiln was housed next to The Garden Room, since removed and converted into a shared guest kitchenette/BBQ and covered seating area.
Claim to Fame : A local Te Puke couple used Quirky Woods in 2013 as one of its locations for filming “The Z Nail Gang” -an anti gold-mining drama with quintessential Kiwi humour.
Our house and The Garden Room space:
We moved two more cabins onto our property during a very wet winter in 2017 and completed tasks as the weather allowed. In January 2018 The Garden Room was opened, followed by The Morepork Forest Cabin and The Cozy Cottage in May 2018. Yay, we are now 4 years old!!
Our space is 6 acres of lush green backdrops of forest, NZ bush and orchard/vineyard areas in a valley that collects water during wet times, adding to the natural spring that fills two ponds. Native birds are plentiful….
Newdicks Beach is a short 10 minute walk away or can be accessed via private road by car (fee applies).

Accommodation
We offer 3 glamping cabin-style rooms at Quirky Woods in distinctive and diverse settings around the property. Perfect for couples or time out for yoursefl. SORRY- no children or pets can be accommodated, no long term stays or emergency accommodation available. The Garden Room can have an additional single mattress on the floor for a third person- extra charge applies.
Each cabin has a queen bed and unique decor/features that blends it with its surroundings. All bedding and towels etc are provided. Each cabin has heating, electric blankets, outdoor seating area and outdoor furniture. Parking is ample and free.
